I have been very busy this week. Finished up the stage for Victor's wedding.

Again the canteen has been very flat during the week. Had a great day on Thursday with the Wham-bam Bingo. We did have a good weekend, Queen of Hearts Friday night followed by Mambo Wally, Bill and Ruth's wedding reception on Saturday and Victor's wedding on Sunday.  The hunt for the Queen was the slowest I have had since we started the game. Mike & Mary were the sheriff for the night and again she got away. If you like music you should of had a great time this week with live bands Friday night and again on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. I was suppose to have got the plans back from the engineer today, but it didn't happen, maybe tom0rrow.

I want to wish Victor and his new Bride the best

I have a hard time this week loading into my blog. I have had a busy week getting the stage ready for Victors wedding on Sunday. Will post some pictures in the gallery later today. The engineer still has all the paper work needed to go for the permit. He has been working with the plan checker as well as the architect so we should get it right this time.  Friday nights hunt for the Queen again was unsucces full, when she found out who the sheriff was ,she shook in her boots and ran.  It was Larry Ashes second or third attempt to capture her but was out foxed. Reward for Friday will be $2,800.00. After the Queen Mambo Wally will be playing for August Birthday's. We will be having a busy weekend so if you have nothing to due come on down  Ellen still has spots for the parking lot sale on August 30th W also would like to send our prayers to the Steve Brock family. Steve was the person who provided the concrete pump used to fill the block in our retaining wall. He passed on the the job earlier this week.  Have a great week.

Well, finally some progress. The Paving Contractors showed up on Friday. They busted their butts and knocked out the job in one day and it looks great. Got the concrete bumpers down today, thanks to the help from the 1st Vice Bob. Received the lumber this afternoon in order to fix the stage before the Patriots run this Saturday. It will be roughed out but will get the tile on later.  Got a call from the Building Dept. saying that they have talked to the Fire Dept and we will not have to install Sprinklers . I will have to sign a waiver for some other changes that they were requiring. Tomorrow I will be going to the engineers office to see what his hold up is seeing that he is not answering his phone. Friday night Ellen came charging in on her horse in an attempt to lasso the Queen for the reward of $2,500.00, again she escaped,  the reward will be increased to $2,700.00 for this week. Uncle Dan's Jam was a great success on Friday Night so they came back Sat. night. We will be having Country Music again this Friday after the Queen. NASCAR winners for Sunday were Larry Ash for $125.00 and 12 points  Deli Bob 2nd for $75.00 and 10 points that gave him the lead in the points chase. He also won $40.00 on the $1.00 board.  Japana won the other $1.00 board. If you haven't been down to check out the new sod and all of the other changes we have made do it to it and have a beer, that how we pay for these changes

Well I don't have much to say because I didn't get a dam thing done all week. The paving contractor was suppose to show last week but didn't they were suppose to show today but didn't, maybe tomorrow. Waited two days on support to get one of the sweepstakes machines fixed, finally happened about three o'clock.  Did get the concrete bumpers needed to install once the parking lot gets finished. The canteen has been real slow, did have a good night on Sat. with the hall rental. Fridays sheriff ,in search for the Queen, was Dan Clay. His guess was envelope #7 which contained the 7 of diamonds  This weeks reward will be $2,500.00. NASCAR winners for the week were Jeanie for $125.00 and 12 points Japana for$75.00 and 10 points  Victor ad Warren for $40.00 ea. on the dollar board.  SAL will be cooking Friday night. They will be having French Dip. Come on down and participate in the hunt for the Queen and have dinner followed by Uncle Dan's Jam. Hope to hear something from the engineer later in the week so I can get back with the County in search of a permit.

Finally able to get my web page up so that I can post the Blog.   The meeting with the building dept. went pretty good  They again are asking for more changes from the engineer.  They were also still requiring sprinklers.  Finally talked to the fire marshal and he said he signed off and sprinklers were not required.  That happened on May 25th. I was not a happy camper when I called the county back.  They say that they will get with the fire dept and get things straight .  As soon as I get the paper work back from engineer we may have a permit.  Dave and Matt installed the Sod on Tuesday, looks great, will post pictures in the gallery. The Riders Casino Night was a great hit.  Everyone had a blast.  There was no NASCAR  this week so I have no results. We do have a celebrity working as a volunteer bartender.  Ellen kicked ass in the Cowboy Race at the rodeo on Sunday.  She not only won by a long shot, but she was the oldest rider. We are not telling how old that is. Again, congratulations.  The Queen sheriff for Friday was Joyce Shelby, her card was the #20.  No Queen, but she did win the Dick Tracy watch as a gift card.  Hope the paving contactor shows up this week and gets our asphalt work done  AUX will be cooking dinner Friday night, come on down and take a shot at the Queen who will be worth $2,400.00

It seem's that I get later each week, time just goes by to fast. I have news regarding our permit, I don't know if it is good or bad.  I received a call from the county on Monday in response to the corrections that the engineer provided. It was not a good call. I was not a happy camper.  It did get some action .I have a appointment with the building dept. supervisor at 2 o'clock on Friday to try a resolve some of the problems and keep it in house. A call to the Fire Marshall has yet to be returned, will try again later today. Have awarded the contract for the asphalt repair but have not got a start date for that project.  David and Matt have installed the sprinkler's and the top soil in the new grass area  They will be putting the sod in shortly.  Know for what happened during the week, not much.  The Brad Pasley and the parade on Sat. kind of took it's toll on our business. Not sure how the Rodeo will effect business this week. We have the ALR Casino Night this Friday night after the Queen. Speaking of the Queen Billy was the sheriff Friday. He found a Queen but the wrong one  The Queen of Clubs came out of hiding but brought no money with her so the reward this week will be $2.300.00.  Sunday's NASCAR winners were Mary for $125.00 and 12 points .  Murphy took 2nd for $75.00 and 10 points. The $1.00 boards for $40.00 were Furball and Dave Dolan.  Dave Clausen got 13 points ,on 2 cars, to take the points lead. We have NASCAR withdrawals this week because there is no race.

Well it's Wednesday and it has been a good day  First I got the ABC permit into the office and approved for the Riders Casino Night on Friday the 18th, after the Queen of Hearts. I got the first bid back from the paving contractor and it was a tad lower than I expected. The first bid for the paving was $5,800.00.  Waiting on the 2nd bid before I hire someone to do the job.  Got the paper work back from the Engineer and will be calling the County for an appointment to see how many more hoop's we will have to jump thru in order to get a permit. Not much happening in the canteen and the sweepstakes machines have been dead. Had a good time with Wham- Bam Bingo on Thursday.  Friday's sheriff was Randy and her card was the Ace of Spades so the Queen got away again. This weeks reward will be $2,200.00. The music after the Queen was great. This week Friday will be the Birthday Bash with Mambo Wally, come and party down.  Saturday will be the ALR Poker Run and BBQ.  The NASCAR winners for Daytona were ,Dale and Heidi for $500.00  David Clausen 2nd for $150.00 3rd place was Japana for $50.00 as well as leader at half for another $50.00 Dave Clausen $50.00 for 15th  Mike H got his $20.00 back for last.  Tom won $125.00 and 12 points on the $6.00 board  Deli Bob won $75.00 for 2nd and 10 points. Victor and Deli Bob won the $1.00 board

Well all the things that I started last week got finished, how about that. Will post some pictures in the gallery of the new wall. I have a call in to a couple of grading and paving contactors to redo the paving and extend the parking lot. Like everyone else they don't return calls  The engineer has yet to get back to me either.

We had a very good week, Ellen did a hell of a job on her organization of all the events that went on Sat. The parking lot sale was a big success , people already wanting to sign up for the next one.. Peter Parker and his partner won the horseshoe tournament. The SAL BBQ went off without a hitch and the music by Mambo Walley was great. To top it off the canteen had a great day. Friday nights sheriff was Robert, he was trying to score big with the reward on his birthday, but it didn't happen. The Queen is still on the loose and the reward will be $2,1000 for the 4th of July. The NASCAR winners for the week were  Troy for first,$125.00 and 12 points Furball $75.00 and 10 points The dollar winners were Victor and Warren.  Hope to see you all on the 4th

Not much to say. Have yet to hear back from Engineer or the sprinkler people. We did destroy the wood wall  that ran along the back driveway. Criss  will start  replacing it tomorrow with concrete block, should run about $4,000. Picked up the supplies I needed to run a electrical line down the wall by the horseshoe pit so Dave can wire up the timer for the sprinklers. Will meet with Paul Martin tomorrow to change out the electrical service on the pole in the Gazabo area. Again this week the canteen has been real slow.  The Sheriff for Friday night was Karen, her pick caused a slight scare it was red and it was a Queen but it was a Diamond.  This weeks reward will be $2,000.00 Jokers will now be $75.00 Saturday should be a busy day  Parking lot sale early, complete with a D-jay Horseshoe tournament starting at noon  SAL BBQ and music by Mambo Walley beginning at 1'0clock followed by the NASCAR race at 4:pm. Sunday the Ladies AUX will be cooking breakfast.  Don't forget the 4th we will be having a Rib BBQ and live music starting at 1;00

Well here I am almost on schedule. Have yet to hear back from the engineer will be calling him tomorrow. Went to talk to the fire sprinkler people. They could not believe that they would want to have them in a Gazebo.  Mike ,the owner is going to call the fire Commander to see what he can due to help us out.  If required we are looking in excess of $20,000.00. There went our gazebo. All in all it was a very disappointing week. To start, Jerry Sanchez, acting as sheriff on Friday night, let that Queen get away again. His pick was envelope #57 which held the 2 of clubs. This weeks reward $1,900.00  Saturday's Riders event turned out to be a big disappointment. The sign up for the ride was way down, and to top it off the tables for the casino night did not show so it had to be canceled. The band was pretty good but I don't think they were worth $500.00. We have all new people running the post and its going to take a while for everyone to figure out what they are suppose to be doing. Sunday's NASCAR winners were Monk for $125.00 and 12 points  San Jose [John] 2nd for $75.00 and 10 points  The dollar board winners were Deli Bob and Victor twice for $40.00 ea. I think that's about it for this week. Don't forget the parking lot sale, SAL fund raiser and the horseshoe tournament coming up on Sat. June 28th. Sign up with Ellen for spots in the lot sale Contact any SAL member for the Horseshoe's  Pete has some great looking plaques for the winners.

Well I don't know where I should start other than it's been a very rough week. We have been waiting for some results from the building Dept. Well I got them on my birthday, the worst birthday present ever. For some reason the plans were sent out for review, came back with seven pages of needed changes before a permit can be issued. I took a copy to the engineer, his response was you have to believe you are working with idiots. Went to the building dept. and their response was why did the plan review get outsourced. The engineer is working on a response to be e-mailed to the county. will have to wait and see what happens . I will try to get a appointment with Calcagno's office to see if he can be any help. The week went pretty fast. We had a very nice Thursday, along with Wham- Bam Bingo we had a lunch and free drinks provided by Margit in rememberance of Jim. Friday was the ALR night to cook dinner, did a nice job.   Regina was the sheriff for the night, her attempt to find the Queen failed. Her envelope was # 20, if the Queen had been there she was long gone, this weeks reward will be $1,700.00. Again we had music after the draw.  Saturday the hall was rented for a wedding reception, they did a great job decorating.  Sunday was ALR breakfast then their meeting followed by a pot luck for one of their riders that was leaving. After all that we had installation of the new incoming officers for the Legion, AUX, SAL and the Riders . Hope to hear something on the permit next week.

Before I start I would like everyone to read the poem that Ellen wrote about Jim I will post it at the end of the blog. If you new him it will make you cry.

The county called last Thursday wanting my permission to come and take pictures of the site. I said come on down. They were suppose to expedite the permit, have yet to hear from them. I got the OK from the engineer to use screws in place of sixteen D nails Will make It a lot easier, also got approval for some minor changes to the trusses. WE got the juke box up and running on Friday have yet to receive the replacement CPU in order to fix the sweepstake machine that's down. Lucky Heidi was selected two weeks in a row to play sheriff. Her pick, envelope #6 and again no Queen. This weeks reward will be$1,600.00. After the draw the band "Off the Hook" entertained the troops. Saturday & Sunday were pretty quiet, Race winners were David Clausen $125 .00 and 12 points  2nd place Mike H., the point leader, $75.00 and 10 points The two $1.00 board winners were Jim Davis and {San Jose} John for $40.00 ea. Remember this Sunday will be installation at 2 o'clock.

                                                        EASY TO PLEASE
JIM JIM where do I start

All this sadness I am feeling comes straight from my Heart

I met you & your sidekick at the local bar.

Cowboy Allen had pointed the two of you out from afar.

Along, about three years or more.

Funny, I always felt we had met somewhere before.

You never complained, nor did you ever whine.

You liked talking about where the two of you had just dined.

Every time, I would see you and Margit.

I was always pleased that we had met.

You always showed style, class and you carried yourself well.

Even when my jokes were beyond bad: you never gave me hell.

I was fortunate enough to spend time with both of you.

The adventures were fun: too bad there were so few

There was BINGO, a Sunset Cocktail Party, and a Parking Lot Sale.

Laughs were plenty: & homeward bound, none of us ended up in jail .

When I first started bartending, your patience shined

The Martini's weren't  perfect you would just smile and switch to wine.

The day you fooled Robert & yelled BINGO two different times .

He grabbed your card & raced to the front of Larry's line.

Our table was in stitches, laughing so hard

Low & behold you still needed one more card.

My tears are hitting this paper as I write down this rhyme.

God  why can't we just turn back time

Jim, I hope in Heaven, the Martini's are the way you like them

Save some olives for the rest of us.... We MISS YOU.... Amen

Well it was a very sad day at the post today. We were informed that the other half of the beloved duo of Jim and Margit passed away from a accident at home. It seems that Jim fell and hurt himself , he did not realize the extent of his injuries, he had ruptured his spleen and had internal bleeding. He will be missed by all the members  Will let everyone know when the services will be held. I submitted the plans to the county with the changes that they requested, they seemed satisfied but had to take a set to the fire dept. Have not heard anything more. I have over half of the required post bases installed. I have got to go buy more Simpsen ties and bolts in order to finish.  Will be having most of the lumber delivered from San Lorenzo Lumber on Thursday morning.  I did  find out that it pays to shop The hardware needed to build the project is about 30% cheaper from White Cap.  I still have one machine down as well as the jukebox, will be calling again tomorrow to see what the holdup is.  The sheriff for Friday night was Heidi. Her choice of envelope's was number 13 which contained the King of Clubs. This weeks reward will be 1,500.00. The weekend was kind of slow but Monday, Memorial Day, was a blast. It started with Victor putting up the flags and Joyce and Karen decorating the hall with very patriotic items. I forgot Doug and Bobbie were there at 6:00 to start the fire and get ready for the BBQ. All hell broke loose when all the people returned from the program at the hill.  The line to kitchen for the free BBQ was steady for over a hour. Doug and Bobbie did a super job, The Prunedale Outlaws keep everybody entertained well into the evening. I want to wish Jack a speedy recovery from a virus that had him in the hospital for over a week.  One more thing, I need any member that has a gas powered weed eater that could volunteer to help clean up the upper part of the property before we get a ticket from the fire dept.

As you can see I didn't make it back on schedule. Time just seems to fly by when you are having fun {ha-ha} When I got the engineering back from the truss Company I got a great surprise. They made changes that added 4 more truss and made them doubled up for a total of 28 pieces. Made another trip to the truss co. after some changes ,making the truss higher, was able to get back to the original truss count. In order for this to happen I had to go back to Seaside and have the changes ok'ed by the engineer. Next step was a trip to the building dept. to attempt to get the permit. Well as you mite figure, not so easy . They now want a site plan, which was given to them with the plans for the wall. also they want drawings of what the finished project will look like. I spent all day drawing some thing that I hope will satisfy them. Had to go to Kinko's and have copies made at the expence of $29.00. Will be at the building Dept. at 8:00 Wish me luck. Not much to report as far as new's during the week. We did have mal-function with the machines but got them fixed. Our juke-box is still down with a blown monitor. Friday's Queen draw went to David Clausen and his pick was envelope #1.To tell you the truth I forgot what card was reveled, but it was not the Queen. This week reward will be $1,300.00. Due to the All-Star race we had no boards this week. There will be a BBQ on Memorial Day starting at about 2 o'clock.

I'm sorry for all you people that been looking for my Blog update. I have been very busy the last week or so. Have made several trips to Seaside to the engineer and finally got the plans.  Once I received them I had several question regarding some of the measurement. I learned that the plans are not exact and can be fudged to make them work. Had to ok the changes with the truss co, again waiting on a response.  We had to go to Home Depot to get some information needed to respond to the Grant Dept. to confirm that we have completed the project that they provided funds for. Ellen and David have been doing  a lot of landscaping, things are looking great. The canteen has been pretty busy thanks to the warm weather. I will be doing some painting and some early set up while waiting on the county to issue the permit. Fridays Queen draw went to Randy, his pick #47 reveling the 7 of Clubs. This weeks reward will be $1,200. After the draw Mambo Wally will be hosting the music for May Birthdays.  Saturday the hall was rented for a celebration of Life for Louie Parker. Saturday nights NASCAR winners were Japanna for $125.00 and 12 points  Deli Bob for $75.00 and 10 points the dollar board winners were Warren and Jeff. I want to wish Ellen a Happy Birthday.  Hope to be back on schedule next week
